Vice Ganda, one of the most popular comedian celebrity turned host in the Philippines is known in real life as Jose Marie Borja Viceral. More popularly regarded as Vice in the movie and TV industries, he was born in Manila on March 31, 1976 as the youngest from a sibling of five. He was raised in Tondo, Manila where his father was the Brgy. Captain. When his father was slain, his mother was forced to leave them to work abroad. Vice pursued a Political Science course at the Far Eastern University. Because he was hard working, he tried to earn money for a living on his own way by writing and performing gigs in comedy bars. At the age of 19, he was already making his own money as a stand-up comedian.
He began making a name in this field of work and eventually was given a stage name of Vice Ganda. He continues to write comedy materials for Punchline and The Library as part of his career as a stand-up comedian as well as in other comedy bars in Manila. Soon enough, he became popular in the tabloids and making some appearances on television. Among the themes of his comedy routines include situational irony, observational comedy and human sexuality. His talent became popular until he was discovered to make an appearance in television sitcoms and shows. Becoming the regular talent and host in the television show Showtime certainly gave his career a further boost to stardom and popularity. His life was featured in the popular drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya. He was given his own television show called Gandang Gabi Vice which became a top rated Sunday night show.
Vice also became an endorser of Globe Communications and soon appeared in various movies, starting from a minor role in the movie In My Life, where he co-starred with the Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos and John Lloyd Cruz. He was soon given a break to take a major role in the movie Petrang Kabayo that became a hit. This movie break was followed by taking the lead role in the movie Praybeyt Benjamin which was a box-office movie. Vice Ganda then embraced fame and success in his career as a comedian, TV host, movie celebrity and an endorser.
