A Filipino pop singer, composer, actress and host, Sheryn Mae Poncardas Regis, was born in 1979 and grew up in Carcar City, Cebu to parents Bernardo and Daisy Regis. She has two siblings, Joseph and Elton of whom she is very fond with. Her mother remembers Sheryn to sing simple songs at an early age of two. Kuh Ledesma’s “Dito Ba,” is her first and beloved contest piece which she mastered when she was only five years old. When she turned seven years old, she began joining amateur singing contests. Her cash prizes were used to buy Shirley Bassey’s tapes for the next contest piece. Her first grand prize piece was “Saan Ako Nagkamali?,” an original song interpreted by Tillie Moreno.
She joined “Star In A Million” and was a consistent scorer wherein she ended up as a runner up to Erik Santos in January of 2004. The competition opened numerous opportunities for her such as TV projects, concerts, commercials not only locally but internationally as well. Sheryn was dubbed as the “Crystal Voice of Asia” and had recorded four solo albums with several gold and platinum awards. A homegrown ABS CBN talent and member of Star Magic, Sheryn is already residing in the United States and pursuing her singing and acting career through concerts and stage plays.
Sometime in 2004, he was chosen to participate in the Voice of Asia Song Festival which was held in Kazakhstan by Mr. Vehnee Saturno to represent Philippines, and won the second place. She sang “Coming Out of the Rain,” which became a blockbuster and consistent hit in the radio as well as in the MYX charts. Star Records decided to produce Sheryn’s first solo album bearing the same title and it became phenomenal in a span of three months. The same album included various theme songs of the fantaserye “Marina” entitled “Kailan Kaya” which was composed and written by Cacai Velasquez and Raul Mitra.
On a personal note, Sheryn Regis earned a degree on B.S. in Secondary Education major in English at Cebu Normal University. During these years, she was in direct exposure to various theater acting and singing. This gave her a chance to perform in different Filipino communities abroad. In 1999, she won as the “Best Interpreter” at Cebu Music Festival and her song also received the grand prize award. It is in Cebu Plaza Hotel while working as a lounge singer that she met her husband Earl Echiverri and they eventually got married in 2002. They were blessed by a daughter whom they nicknamed “Sweety.” A successful woman in the family and in show business career, she is thankful for the good opportunities that continue to come her way. She hopes to be back in the Philippines soon and do some TV appearances together with her contemporaries.
Her hit songs include “Always Follow Your Dream,” Now that I have You,” Come Out of the Rain,” “Kailan Kaya,” “Sa Piling Mo,” “Sayang na Sayang,” “Starting Over Again,” “Sabihin Mo Sa Akin,” “What I Do Best,” “Ang Pag-ibig kong Ito,””Maybe,” “Maria Flordeluna,” and “Among Gabayan” among the few.
