Boy Abunda, a Filipino host, publicist, celebrity endorser and talent manager is born Eugenio “Boy” RomericaAbunda, Jr. on October 29, 1955 in Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Boy took up a degree in Business Management at the Ateneo de Manila University but unfortunately he was not able to finish the course because of his father’s untimely death. With a heavy heart Boy had to leave Ateneo and was forced to work at odd jobs to support himself. Because of hard work, patience and persistence Boy was able to transform himself as one of the most powerful and influential people in Philippine entertainment.
For Boy Abunda, quitting school was not the end of the world. This motivated him to strive even harder and to learn how to value work. His love for theater and books immersed him to self-study and continue to learn even without being in school. His passion for theater influenced him to work at the Metropolitan Theater as a stage actor and later on to be an assistant stage manager. After his hard work being an assistant stage manager he became the assistant of Conchita or Tita Concing Sunico, the theaters administrator. According to Boy she was the person who helped her most in his career. She taught how to deal with people and the secret of public relations. He depended on her kindness and he believed that Tita Conching saw a lot of potential in him.
After some years Boy Abunda started a public relations firm named Backroom, Inc. At the time he was working as a public relations consultant then for GMA Network, Bobby Barreiro, a network executive suggested to him that he should try hosting a TV show. This then inspired him the most to pursue a hosting career until eventually became a host of Show and Tell, a late night variety talk show with the actress Gretchen Barretto and at the same time a host for Startalk, an entertainment talk show in GMA 7.
In 1999 Boy Abunda decided to move to ABS-CBN, the competitor network of GMA-7. Through this network he hosted several shows like The Buzz, Private Conversations, Home Boy, Konttabersyal, SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon and The Bottomline with Boy Abunda and a newscaster for the late night news program Bandila.
