Born in January 29, 1961, Visitacion Prado was determined to try her luck in the most glamorous beauty contest, Mutya ng Pilipinas in 1979. She was then popularly known as Techie Agbayani when she joined the Philippine showbiz entertainment. After winning as a runner up in the prestigious contest, she decided to give up her schooling from the University of Santo Tomas where she was enrolled in an Architecture course. Filipino audience got their biggest surprise when Techie Agbayani posed nude in a Playboy Magazine, German Edition in 1982. The incident opened a Hollywood acting to her and eventually she appeared in a few international movies such as the “Emerald Forest” in 1985 and “Money Pit” in 1986. After a few more movies, she realized that Asian actresses are almost always stereotyped and limited to only some roles, that in 1989, she decided to go back in the Philippines.
Techie Agbayani opted to take a break from her showbiz and entertainment career. This is the moment wherein she gave birth to her daughter China and chose to live a quiet life taking care of her baby. She was determined then to finish her studies and continue pursuing her education, but this time she took up a course in Psychology. And because of firm dedication and diligence, she eventually graduated and is presently teaching at St. Joseph’s College in Quezon City, amidst periodical TV guestings and movie appearances. These achievements brought more inspirations to her life that in 2001, she persisted to enroll into a post-graduate Masteral Program in Counseling Psychology at the Ateneo de Manila University. Techie Agbayani felt a different kind of fulfillment and was generous to share how she managed to gain respect and confidence to herself.
She was 39 when she earned her degree in college, became a teacher at the age of 43 and by 44 she was already taking up her Masteral Degree, these, Techie mused, means that your age does not determine what you can still achieve in life. Picking up the pieces from where you left is the only way you can get yourself together again. Techie displayed a strong character of a woman, who turned her chaos into a positive outlook into the ladder of success. She was and is a true inspiration to all who thinks that life can’t be so much better anymore.
Techie Agbayani is living the true essence of being a renewed and determined person. Her various appearances in Television programs, newspapers and magazines had helped others through her motivational and inspirational talks on how to pull things together despite the hardships and the odds. Her intention to be a successful full-time teacher and psychologist are now becoming a reality of her dreams.
