Maricar Concepcion Pozon Reyes, simply known as Maricar Reyes, is a Filipino actress, model, and a general practitioner. Born June 20, 1984 in Cagayan de Oro City, she finished Bachelor of Science in Biology at Ateneo de Manila University. She proceeds to medicine and studied at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and eventually passed the board examination in 2008.
Maricar Reyes was visible in TV and print advertisements here in the Philippines and abroad before she became an actress. She was discovered by Star Magic big boss, Johnny Manahan or Mr. M. She was then invited by him to guest on ASAP ‘08 and Wowowwee. Then her big break came when she played the younger version of the character played by actress Gloria Sevilla in ABS-CBN’s Komiks Presents: Kapitan Boom. It was followed by her appearances in the TV series I Love Betty La Fea and Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Bud Brothers.
In 2009, Maricar Reyes got involved in a sex scandal with fellow doctor and model, Hayden Kho, ex-boyfriend of the popular beauty doctor, Vicki Belo. Despite of her involvement in the said scandal, Maricar kept herself mum towards the issue. That doesn’t keep her from continuing her career in the showbiz industry either. In fact, she received numerous offers and made herself visible in different TV shows.
She even got to play the character of “Ina”, a young woman who lost her sanity because of her dark past in the soap opera May Bukas Pa. Her first starring role was in the series Your Song Presents: Gaano Kita Kamahal.
She was nominated for Best Actress of the Year in 2009 Star Awards for Movies for the film, And I Love You So. In 2011, she was able to win Best Actress in Cinema One Originals Film Festival Award for the Indie film, Anatomiya ng Korupsiyon. Maricar played the role of an idealistic young lawyer. She was also nominated for Best Actress in Metro Manila Film Festival for the movie, Shake Rattle & Roll 13.
When she’s not doing any taping, Maricar goes back to being a doctor. She even finds time to be in the gym three times a week. Though she admits that showbiz life is far different from the medical field, she said that she loved having different kinds of environment. Maricar is presently having a relationship with singer, Richard Poon and was reportedly engaged to each other.
Maricar Reyes is also one of the endorser of the beauty product, Ponds. She also did some films for which she received nominations and even award. Films like And I Love You So, Miss You Like Crazy, White House, Anatomiya ng Korupsiyon, Shake Rattle & Roll 13, and 24/7 in Love marked her great acting capability.
