Gabby Concepcion, a Filipino actor, singer-songwriter, director and businessman is born Gabriel Arellano Concepcion on November 5, 1963 at Manila Philippines. His parents Rolando Conception and Lourdes Arellano gave him the nickname “Gabby” because according to them he talked too much when he was a kid. Gabby’s great-grandfather was the prominent Manila architect, Juan M. Arellano. He finished his grade school studies at the Ateneo de Manila and spent some of his high school at Aquinas School. He took up Pre-Dentistry in Centro Escolar University in Manila.
Gabby’s first appearance on Philippine television was in a toothpaste commercial in the 1980’s. At the age of fifteen Gabby was introduced to showbiz. His first movie was Katorse under Regal Films which captured the attention of many people and gained so many fans that lead him to become a Matinee Idol. He made a total of 80 films from 1980-1995 with Regal, Viva and his own production company GC. Aside from being a good actor Gabby was also a good print and advertisement model. During his acting career Gabby received several showbiz awards like Best Actor in the UrianAwards, Best supporting actor in the Urian, Star, and Famasand more.
Gabby Concepcion was paired with Sharon Cuneta in most of his movies whom he married in the 1984. They have a daughter, whom they named Kristina Cassandra Conception an actress model popularly known as KC Concepcion. After just 3 years of marriage Sharon and Gabby separated and their marriage was annulled. He has two other daughters with his two failed relationships, Chloe with his second wife Jenny Syquia and Gabrielle with Grace Ibuna. Gabby again remarried in 2004 to his long-time girlfriend Genevieve Gonzalez; together they have a daughter named Samantha Alexis who was born in 2008.
In 1995, Gabby left for the United States after the 1994 Manila Film Festival scandal where he was the whistleblower of the attempt of his former manager Lolit Solis to fraudulently proclaim him and actress Ruffa Gutierrez as the winners of the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. Gabby returned down his Best Actor award because the real winner was the actor Edu Manzano.
In the United States, Gabby struggled to study at Lincoln University in Oakland, California wherein he simultaneously finished two degrees, Management Information Systems and International Business Administration. He later on pursue a career in real estate and was really very good at it. He became one of the top 10 real estate brokers in California, USA.
In March, 2008, after a 13 year self-exile, Gabby decided to return to the Philippines and immediately posted bail to avoid any legal implications for a bigamy case involving his first wife Sharon Cuneta. He made a comeback in Philippine showbiz and signed a contract under the management of ABS-CBN. After the contract signing he initially played a role in the TV Drama Maalaala Mo Kaya. Gabby also played important roles in the hit TV shows Iisa Pa Lamang, Dahil May IsangIkaw, and Kung Tayo’yMagkakalayo.
