As the old saying goes, success comes to those who patiently wait for it. And actor politician Alfred Vargas knows this all so well. He has come a long way from humble beginnings into one of the most successful actor politicians of today’s generation. Alfred Vargas was born Alfredo Paulo Dumlao Vargas, III on October 14, 1981 to Alfredo Vargas Jr. and Susanna Dumlao Vargas. He would go on to complete his degree in AB Management Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University. During his college years, Vargas dabbled in theatre acting, which would pave the way to his move to film and TV acting.
His first foray into the local showbiz scene is through modelling stints for various companies. Later on, Vargas would become a member of TV network ABS CBN’s prestigious Star Circle (now Star Magic) pool of talents where he would become a contemporary of popular actors like Piolo Pascual and Jericho Rosales. He would go on playing various supporting roles in the network’s various soap operas, including the highly successful series Pangako Sa’yo where he portrayed the role of Dyno Zuryete,
In 2994, he would move to network GMA, which would become his home studio for the next five years. Again, he would be cast in several roles in the network’s own line of soaps. Some of his major projects include roles in GMA’s popular Encantadia franchise, where he played major character Aquil in the first series, and Amano in the prequel Etherea,
Alfred Vargas endeavor in the movies would also prove to be highly fruitful. His first major break in the movies is the critically acclaimed sexy film Liberated in 2003, where he was cast opposite actresses Francine Prieto and Diana Zubiri. He would go on to do several other movies, the latest of which is the 2013 biographical film Supremo, where he portrayed historical figure Andres Bonifacio.
During the 2010 national elections, Vargas decided to run as councillor for the second district of Quezon City. He would go on to be elected alongside fellow actor Roderick Paulate, where he got the second highest number of votes. In the 2013 midterm elections would run for and be elected as congressional representative for the newly created fifth district of Quezon City. While serving as a politician, Vargas still continues his acting career, appearing in various shows in both ABS CBN and GMA.
