Helen Gamboa is a veteran Filipina actress, singer and a former beauty titlist holder. She was born on May 7, 1948 in Pampanga, Philippines. She married Vicente Sotto III, who is an actor-comedian/TV host and a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines. Helen came from a Spanish American descent. Her daughter is Ciara Sotto, who is also an actress and son Gian Sotto who also a singer and actor. The mother of nephew Sharon Cuneta, Elaine is her sister. In 1961, she became a runner-up to Cynthia Ugalde in the Miss Press Photography of the Philippines.
Helen Gamboa actually gave up her movie career to prioritize her marriage over Tito Sotto. Because of this reason, her appearance in the TV and movies had been very rare, and only on exceptional instances and very few guestings. When she accepted the offer to do a teleserye entitled “Tayong Dalawa,” everybody was excited and surprised by this rare opportunity that she can be seen once again in the big screen. She is still a classic example of “once an actress will always be an actress,” which means she cannot totally turn her back in showbiz world just like any actor who have also chosen to take a long break.
She firmly believes that she and Tito are really meant to be together. Because after so very long years they still are blessed to be with each other. She’s happy with the rate her life is doing because she couldn’t ask for more. Romina, her eldest daughter had already graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and plans to put up a business of her own, Lala their second daughter is a councilor in her own and visibly following Senator Tito’s footsteps, Ciara and Gian are both in show business. Helen is so blessed with the family and she can’t ask for more but health and protection for every member of the family.
In 2012, she made a memorable teleserye in the ABS CBN Highly Acclaimed and Most Watched Program “Walang Hanggan,” with Coco Martin and Julia Montes in the lead role. She played the role of Margaret who was the main antagonist. In the “Walang Hanggang Pasasalamat Concert,” she gamely danced the Oppa Gangnam to the delight of the fans.
Some of her movies include “Segunda Mano,” in 2011, “Mano Po 6: A Mother’s Love” in 2009, “Bagong Bayani,” in 1995, “Umiiyak Pati Langit,” in 1991, “Oras-oras, Araw-araw,” “Kailan Mahuhugasan ang Kasalanan,” in 1989, “Hot Summer,” in 1989, “Mama Said Papa Said I Love You” in 1985, “Mga Mata Ni Angelita” in 1978, “Give Me Five!” in 1984, “Angelita, Ako ang Iyong Ina Part II’ in 1982, “Roberta” in 1979, “Feliciano” in 1978, “Kapitan Kulas” in 1975. “Biktima’ in 1974, “Sarhento Fofonggay… A, ewan!” in 1974, “ Ako’y Tao, May Dugo at Lamán” in 1970, “Love Is for the Two of Us” in 1970, and “ Matimbang ang Dugo sa Tubig” in 1969.
Just recently, she signed an exclusive contract over GMA 7 Network and will be doing an upcoming teleserye entitled “Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas.”
