Errol “Budoy” Marabiles also known as Budoy Marabiles was born on October 22, 1971 in Samar, Philippines. He is a popular reggae musician, a songwriter and a TV host. He joined the biggest reality show in Philippine showbiz entitled “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” under ABS CBN Network. Errol has dreadlocks or turban which makes him easier to recognize. Budoy studied at the University of the Philippines, Cebu.
Budoy Marabiles is popular as the lead vocalist of a Cebu based reggae band named Junior Kilat and billed as the “M-16 of Samar.” They are more famous for their songs such as Original Sigbin (in Cebuano, it means a mythical creature), “K Fyne,” and “Ako Si M16,” which won the Best Song in the 2005 NU Rock awards by the Manila-based rock station NU107. Budoy also co-produce and hosted the magazine show “Ismol Taym,” (Small Time on an independent cable channel before he joined PBB.
On Day 49 of the Pinoy Big Brother, Budoy was evicted after fellow nominees Zanjoe Marudo and Bianca Gonzalez won against him through the majority of the people’s vote. While inside the PBB house, he had composed several songs such as Budoy Ako, A Visayan version of Pinoy Ako, and Maligo Na Jam, which is created from “Maligo Ka,” rap with fellow housemates Roxanne Barcelo and Rico Rolbles.
Junior Kilat band was actually inspired by a revolutionary hero in the Visayas, of which they name the band to pay tribute to him. Budoy said that there was an original Leon Kilat in a former band, that’s why they put Junior in their name. Junior Kilat’s original members have already disbanded and Budoy revived the band with new members. Only Tiano Evangelista, the bass player was left.
Budoy Marabiles as a musician would want to differentiate his music among other usual bands. That’s why he had songs that actually belong in mixed genre. Their super hit song “Ako Si M-16,” is not reggae per se but it hit the rock market instead. Budoy is now composing and producing songs which can cater into the rock scene. His songs are more of an influence to artists King Tubby, Lee “Scratch” Perry and the Upsetters. His band is currently recording two forthcoming albums, one a remix album. Other friends from Australia and Norway and also Filipino talents help create and curate the songs into perfection. Their album will be coming out very soon but they are already available on the YouTube website. They perform live and publish on this site. Recommended songs are “Ako Si M-16,” and the “Original Sigbin,” “1-2-3,’ and “Buwad Suka Sili” and some dub and instrumental versions of the songs.
To date, Budoy Marabiles is just busy doing shows in Cebu and also in his various compositions. He hopes to be more noticeable in his unique songs and be successful with his band.
