Anthony TabernaAnthony Taberna is Antonio Talens Taberna or sometimes called Ka Tunying by colleagues was born on January 16, 1975. He is a popular broadcaster and radio commentator over ABS-CBN. He is a professional TV and radio host who works on news and public affairs. He also co-hosts a morning TV program entitled “Umagang Kayganda,” where he began his popularity in the segment “Punto por Punto” and “Exclusibong, Explosibong, Expose” also on the same network. He is also a radio commentator and is heard over the program “Dos Por Dos,” aired every day on mornings and late afternoons.

Anthony graduated from the New Era University and began his career as a part-time news writer at DZEC under the Eagle Broadcasting Corporation. He then became a Radyo Patrol reporter in DZMM in 1997 also a subsidiary of ABS-CBN. It was in 2002 when he was given his own radio show entitled “Ito Ang Radyo Patrol” in 2000. He has made documentaries and one of them was entitled “Kalye: Mga Kwento ng Lansangan.” Just like any normal broadcaster who sometimes deals with sensitive issues, he admits he also received numerous death threats. He perceives these as part of the job and shrugs them off even though he also feels afraid. But he takes these as challenges and tries to overcome and be firm in his stand and opinion to bring out the truths out of every issue. He feels he owes this to the public.

He gained the respect of his viewers and listeners by being very detailed and sincere in every assignment he is tasked to do. The exposure of then Batangas governor Antonio Leviste illegal trip outside his prison cell, the exclusive interview with Maguindanao election supervisor Lintang Bedol and rescuing a grandmother from a dog cage, where her own family locked her, are just a few of the exposes’, interviews, and rescues that Anthony and his team had staged. Today, he can even crack jokes about his profession, stating that he should have worked as a tailor if he doesn’t want to receive death threats and work in the luxury of his time. Anthony only hopes and prays for safety especially for his family. This is the risk of being in the broadcasting media.

Anthony dreams of having an interview with US President Barack Obama. He feels this is his ultimate dream in his entire career. He had already interviewed influential personalities and almost all types of people but he still has this ultimate wish. He even joked that he had already prepared lots and lots of English just in case he gets that rare opportunity.

On the personal note, Anthony is also busy attending to his own personal businesses like a salon and events and multimedia agency together with his wife. Anthony always makes it a point to spend quality time for his wife and children, Zoey and Helga. The family spends time going home to the province on weekends, enjoys some getaways and outings and goes swimming. The children love to swim and the couple makes it a point to bring them to places they had never been for recreation and educational purposes.
