Rochelle Pangilinan was born on May 23, 1982 in Malabon City, Philippines is a popular Filipino dancer, singer and actress and one of the members of the famous Sexbomb Dancers. By the year 2007, she reinvented herself to a rap and hip-hop artist under the name RoC. She has two other siblings. Rochelle’s family was very poor and his father was an alcoholic and wife beater. His name was Rodolfo Pangilinan. Her parents reunited after being separated for many years and her father stopped drinking. That was in the year 2000. In November 11, 2007, he died of emphysema.
Rochelle’s first TV exposure was when she joined a dance contest at age 14. She was then offered a dancing job at “Eat Bulaga,” a popular variety show in GMA 7. A group of dancers was created and called “Chicken Sandwich Dancers,” in November 1999 which is an offshoot of Danz Focus. The first original members were Rochelle, Cherly, Debra and Janine and later added two more members Jopay and Aira. Eventually they expanded in 8, 12 and 13 and even reached 22 members. In 2000, their name was changed to “Sexbomb,” which was inspired by the Tom Jones hit song, by their manager, Joy Cancio.
Out of the Sexbomb dancers, a new singing group was created with Jopay, Yvette, Weng, Monic, Izzzy and Rochelle as the members in 2002. Their debut album ‘Unang Putok,” with a carrier single entitled “Bakit Papa” was released on the same year. Later, three more albums were released. It was then that the group had their first movie appearance entitled “Bakit Papa,” opposite Allan K., Wendel Ramos, Epi Quizon, Chynna Ortaleza and Ricahrd Gutierrez. Rochelle was also seen in the movie “Bertud ng Putik,” where she played the leading lady of Bong Revilla and rival of Regine Tolentino. Rochelle was also a regular star on “Daboy en Da Girl,” also on GMA 7. Various TV shows followed such as “Daisy Siete,” wherein she had her biggest break, playing the lead role, “Home Along the Airport,” opposite Dolphy, “Darna,” “Marikit” and “Amaya.”
Rochelle Pangilinan was never embarrassed to talk about where she came from. She said that poverty led her to where she is now. She even recalls waking up to rising flood and had fun catching fish on overflowing fish pens. She even helped her father mend fishing nets. Rochelle’s family and friends describe her as caring, responsible and talented woman who keeps his feet grounded despite fame and popularity. Her mother Baby, shares that Rochelle is the kind of daughter who understands their situation and never bothers to ask because they had nothing.
She met Arthur Solinap who is a co-actor in “Daisy Siete,” who eventually became her boyfriend. Arthur finds her very sweet and caring, and she cooks very well. He believes that someday, when they decide to get married, Rochelle will be a good wife and a loving mother. It is displayed in her personality and can be seen quite clearly through her character.
