Ruby Rodriguez is Maria Ruby Rodriguez Aquino in a real life, a Filipino actress and a host. She was born on January 10, 1966 in Manila, Philippines. She is also a singer and composer. Ruby is considered a veteran in the field of hosting and has been with “Eat Bulaga” for almost decades already. This noontime variety show is considered to be the longest noontime show to date, which originally stars the three wackiest comedians, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon. Although she has a teaching career in OB Montessori, she is still hosting regularly. Ruby Rodriguez graduated at the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and furthered her studies at the Philippine School of Business Administration majoring in marketing and management.
Ruby Rodriguez considers her weight the biggest challenge in her life. Yet, she considers it positively and says it is an asset rather than a liability to her career. She makes money out of it, for being a comedian. She even says that being overweight became an edge for her in getting jobs when she was younger.
Ruby Rodriguez is happily married to Mark Aquino who happens to be the graphic and the set designer of “Eat Bulaga.” He is already an American Citizen because his parents migrated to the U.S. some years back. Because of this, Ruby became an American citizen by virtue of her marriage to Mark. They had two beautiful kids.
Mark agreed for her to still stay here in the Philippines because she doesn’t want to leave “Eat Bulaga” yet. She admits that it is already a part of her system and how much she loved the show and her colleagues. In 1999, Ruby was awarded ‘Ulirang Ina” and 2002 “Educator Of The Year.” She has starred in several movie films such as “Humanap Ka Ng Panget,” “Enteng Kabisote, (1-4)” “Okay ka Fairy Ko (1-3),” “Alabang Girls,” “Pitong Gamol,” “Eat All You Can,” “Boyfriend Kong Gamol,””Abrakadabra,””O Ha? Ako Pa,” “Basta’t Kasama Kita,” “Utang Ng Ama,” “Ouija,” “Urduja,” “Si Agimat at Si Enteng kabisote,” “Enteng Ng Ina Mo.”
There are moments when she continued to think of her weight, and in her quiet times, she fears that it can pose some health problems. But she really doesn’t mind at all. The only problem is when she is asked to do some dance number and formations and asked to wear skimpy clothes. It leaves her feeling embarrassed at times. She knows her family loves and supports her that much, yet it sometimes crosses her mind if she can really lose weight for their sake.
Ruby Rodriguez is a funny woman and takes everything in stride. Yet, she says she is lucky to have a loving husband and beautiful kids. When asked when she would migrate to US to permanently stay there, she just smiled and answered, “in time, I just can’t leave my Eat Bulaga family.” Ruby is just so thankful that Mark appreciates and understands her. He promised to respect Ruby’s decisions and is willing to wait for her.
