Joey de Leon, a Filipino comedian, actor and TV host is born Jose Maria Ramos de Leon on October 14, 1946 in Sampaloc Manila and the second child of Jose Seonae de Leon of Spanish-Filipino descent and Emma Manahan Ramos. His parents separated and his father moved back to Madrid Spain when Joey was just three years old. His paternal grandfather was the first mayor of Malolos Bulacan. He took up architecture at the National University in Manila but dropped out after two years in college and started taking odd jobs. Joey worked as a disc jockey for different radio stations when he was first starting out. Joey de Leon was married to Daria Ramirez and together they have two children Joseph Joachim or Kempee and Jacinda Myrtle. Joey married actress Eileen Macapagal and their union produced three children Jocas,Jako and Jio. He also has three grandchildren from Kempee and Cheenee.
Joey De Leon is one of the main hosts of the variety show Eat Bulaga and a member of the trio, Tito, Vic and Joey. Joey’s first break on TV was in the gag show OK Lang which aired on IBC and starred him alongside Titi and Vic Sotto, Ricky Manalo and the APO Hiking Society. In 1975, Joey became a co-host in the GMA show Discorama with Bobby Ledesma and later on the show was hosted by the trio Tito, Vic and Joey. Eventually the trio was invited to also co-host the show Student Canteen. Joey in the 1980’s also did solo shows like Joey and Son, TODAS, Apple Pie, Patis,Atbp., The Sharon Cuneta Show and Let’s Go Crazy. Joey also appeared in top hit movies like She-Man:Mistress of the Universe, Starzan, Barbi, Elvis and James Long Ranger en Tonton and Bangers. Joey also did shows like Mel and Joey, Startalk, Nuts Entertainment, Wow Mali and Teka Mona. He also hosted the show Takeshi’s Castle and became a resident judge of the reality show Starstruck.
Aside from acting Joey De Leon also writes for a column in newspapers, paints, sings and composes songs. He created songs like Itaktak Mo, Kagat Labi Song and Walang Daya He is currently a host for the talk show Star Talk.
