Gardo Versoza, a Filipino actor is born with the real name Mennen Torres Polintan on November 8, 1969. Gardo appeared in over forty movies and in many TV shows. Gardo’s first appearances were in the movie SabikSaHalik. He also started out in sexy movies like, Machete II, Halimuyak Ng Babae and Kirot. His most popular role is in the movie Machete II, where he played the lead character, David, a deceased model whose wooden statue magically came to life. Starting out with these movies Gardo was known as a sexy star. Later on Gardo starred in action movies like Cesar Climaco, Mison, and Ka Hector. Gardo being known as a sexy icon appeared in a critically acclaimed three hour film Rizal by Marilou Diaz-Abaya in 1998. He played the role of the revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio. He also starred in another revolutionary film Sisawhere he played the role of Pepe/Jose Rizal. This was adopted from the novel of Dr. Jose Rizal’s NoliMiTangere. He also played a role in the comedy movie, Pinoy Blonde.Other movies in which Gardo starred are Animal, Babaesa Breakwater and AngLalake Sa Buhay Ni Selya with actress Rosanna Roces. During his earlier careers and his sexy roles Gardo was tagged as “Asia’s Sexiest Man.”
Gardo Versoza since then has starred and appeared in several movies and plays important roles in teleseryes such as MulasaPuso, It Might Be You and Sugowhere he played the role of Apo Abukay an evil chieftain who possesses black magic that comes from dark spirits. Gardo has been very busy with guest appearances in different shows for networks like ABS-CBN, TV-5 and GMA-7. He appeared in shows like the hilarious Bubble Gang in GMa-7, Maalaala Mo Kaya, the longest-running drama anthology on Philippine television, HokusPokus and Magpakailanman.
Gardo also starred in an indie film Prinsipe ng Sabong (Prince of Cockfighting). He plays the role of an actor and a sabungero or a cockfighter. He later goes home to his foster family where conflict between family arises because of his wrongdoings and misconduct wherein he runs away with his brother’s girlfriend. The film which was directed by Yeng Grande has received a REMI Best Feature Award at the 42nd Worldfest-Houston Independent Film Festival in Houston, Texas. According to the actor he feels very proud in doing this Indie Film which has become a prize winning film abroad. The actors in this movie including Gardo were highly praised and admired. They have brought pride to the Philippine nation once again.
According to Gardo he envies actors and actresses who did not have to be a sexy star to be noticed. Before he became the actor he is now he had to go through a lot according to him.
