Jorge Eduardo Picket Gutierrez, which has a screen name of Eddie Gutierrez was born on January 2, 1942 to Mary Picket, an American and Antonio Gutierrez in Manila Philippines. Eduardo spent his primary education at San Beda College and finished his secondary education at San Sebastian College. He then pursued a degree in Bachelor of Science wherein he graduated at Letran College. He is a Filipino veteran actor, and had good looks and pleasant personality. Eddie met Annabelle Rama, also a movie actress of whom they has six children namely Ruffa, who was a candidate for the Miss World in 1990’s and won the 1st Runner-Up place, twins Raymond and Richard, who are both actors and host at the same time, Elvis, Rocky and Ritchie Paul.
Tonton Gutierrez, also a movie star is also a son of Eddie by actress Liza Lorena and another son Ramon Christopher by actress and singer Pilita Corrales. He started his acting career in “Prinsesang Gusgusin,” in 1958 where he was given a bit role, and was later introduced in “Handsome,” in 1959. His first lead role was in ‘Kaming Makasalanan,” in 1960, “Eddie Longlegs,” in 1964, ‘Portrait of my Love,” in 1965 and “Pogi,” in 1967. Sampaguita Pictures offered him an exclusive contract of eight years. He also starred in other movie pictures like “Hiram na Kamay” in 1962, “June Bride” in 1962, “Pitong Puso” in 1962, “Sabina” in 1963, “Bird of Paradise” in 1963, “Eddie loves Susie” in 1964, “Isinulat sa Dugo” in 1965, “Ill Dream Of You” in 1966 and “All Over The World,” in 1967. He then went to the United States and stayed for quite some time and upon his return to the Philippines, he continued his acting career. He made “Katawang Lupa” in 1975, “Ursula” in 1976, “Beerhouse” in 1977, “Bontoc” in 1977, “Balatkayo” in 1978, “Bomba Star” in 1978, “Sari-Saring Ibong Kulasisi” in 1978, “Lagi na Lamang Ba Akong Babae,” in 1978 and “Lumakad Ka Gabi,” in 1979.
In 1991, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) nominated him as Best Supporting Actor for the movie “Uubusin Ko Ang Lahi Mo.” In 1992, he earned the FAP award for Best Actor and FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movies and Arts) Best Supporting Award for the movie entitled “Ikaw Pa Lang ang Minahal.” He also appeared in the TV series entitled “Mulawin” and “Majika” and portrayed an elder who possesses magical powers.
In the recently concluded TV blockbuster teleserye “Ina, Kapatid, Anak” of ABS-CBN, he played the grandfather of the two controversial young stars Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador. Also with the show were Enchong Dee and Xian Lim, and the veterans Ronaldo Valdez and Pilar Pilapil. The seasoned actresses Janice de Belen and Cherry Pie Picache played the mothers of the Kim and Maja.
Eddie Gutierrez says that although he plays a villain in the drama show, he is actually a good person in real life, and now a good husband, he laughs. He says he is happy with his life and takes inspirations and pride in his family that he truly adores.
