Martin Nievera, a Filipino singer, songwriter and an actor, is Martin Ramon Razon Nievera in real life. He was born on February 5, 1962 in Manila Philippines. Martin has a twin sister named Vicky who presently resides with her husband in the US. His father Bert Nievera, who is a famous Filipino balladeer, had a great influence in Martin’s life. Martin spent most of his childhood life in Hawaii where he was exposed to his father’s singing career. His father sang for the group A Society of Seven or S.O.S. In 1982, Martin being inspired by his dad returned to the Philippines to pursue his own musical career.
His first album, Martin…Take One was released in June 1982 which went platinum in just five months. During that year Martin also became a host in the TV variety show Penthouse Live cohosting with his future wife Pops Fernandez. His second album, The Best Gift was then released in 1984 which again went platinum. In the year 1987, his show Penthouse Live was changed to the show Martin and Pops Twogether which highlighted and reflected their marriage. Martin’s uncanny personality has gained him so many fans and admirers. His concerts and albums during the 1980 and 90’s were always full packed or sold out. His 1997 album, Journeys was a hit in the Philippines and also in Hawaii as well. The song You Are My Song earned Martin the Awit and Katha Awards for Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist during. After a year, Martin and Pops decided to go on their separate ways. Martin recorded the album Forever which was dedicated to his former wife Pops. This album was an attempt to win his wife back but unfortunately failed. Forever, which was only supposed to be heard by Pops was later on released to the public which became the second best-selling album in Philippine history. The album generated two sequels in 1999, Forever Forever and Return to Forever. The first album Forever Forever reflects Martin’s frustration over losing his wife while the album Return To Forever is about his acceptance over their separation. These two albums once again went platinum. His album As Always was released in July, 2010 and another album Himig Ng Damdamin was released in 2011. Martin has also toured other countries like the United States, Canada, Guam, the Middle East and Singapore promoting his songs and albums. Martin holds the title “Concert King” of the Philippines.
At present Martin Nievera is one of the main hosts of the Sunday musical variety show ASAP on ABS CBN. In March of 2012 he was chosen to be one among the four celebrity judges in the show The X-Factor Philippines which aired on the same network. This show proved that he is a talented singer by displaying his skills in coaching and guiding potential singers to bring out the best in them. Aside from being one of the greatest singers in the Philippines he was also considered a good actor. He has appeared in eleven movies and seven TV series and specials.
Martin has two sons, Robin and Ram with former wife Pops Fernandez and another son, Santino with girlfriend Katrina Ojeda.
