Ariel Aquino Muhlach or popularly known as Aga Muhlach was born on August 12, 1969 to Anita Aquino and Alvaro Cheng Muhlach in Manila, Philippines. He is a nephew to Amalia Fuentes, an award winning dramatic actress and a cousin to Nino Muhlach, a leading child star during the 1970s. His appealing looks rooted from his father’s Spanish-German ancestry. He has two sisters, Arlene and Almira Muhlach and a brother Albert Muhlach. He is married to Charlene Muhlach, who held the title Binibining Pilipinas-Univers 1994. They were blessed with two children, Andres and Atasha.
Aga Muhlach went to Aquinas School for his elementary and high school years. He is an undergrad student of Sand Beda College who took up a degree in commerce. His career as an actor started even as a child using his real name Ariel Muhlach. He appeared in films like Babaing Hiwalay Sa Asawa, May Lalaki sa Ilalim ng Kama and Aguila starred by Fernando Poe Jr. and Christopher de Leon. His career as an actor soared high as he casted for teen roles using his new screen name, Aga Muhlach. Among the movies that helped spark his career were Bagets (1983) and Super-Wan-Tu-Tri (1986). It was during these years that he co-starred with Janice de Belen whom he had a son, Luigi Muhlach.
He played a title role for Miguelito, Ang Batang Rebelde and was nominated Best Supporting Actor from the FAMAS and Best Actor from the Gawad Urian in 1984. It was in 1987 that Aga Muhlach received his first Gawad Urian award, as Best Supporting Actor for the film Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie. During the 90s, his name emerged as one of the best dramatic actors in Philippine Television and won him Best Actor awards from the FAMAS for the film Sinungaling Mong Puso in 1992 and the Gawad Urian for Sana Maulit Muli in 1996. Aga Muhlach had appeared in roughly 61 movies including a number of television sitcoms at ABS-CBN and is still very active in films and television shows today. At present, Aga Muhlach holds one of the most established names in the industry of show business in the Philippines.
Aga Muhlach is also known to be among the longest endorsers of Jollibee, Philippines’ number 1 fast food chain and is the founder of Ma Aga Ang Pasko, a gift giving project intended for the less fortunate, which was launched by Jollibee in 1994. In the most recent news, Aga Muhlach announced his plans of joining the politics, to run as a Congressman for the 4th district of Camarines Sur, joining the Administration Liberal Party with President NoyNoy Aquino. Despite issues of his and his wife’s voting registration in the area, the Philippine Court of Appeals finally ordered the Election Commission for the inclusion of their voting rights in the area therefore making him eligible to run for the party’s congressional seat.
